And it's not for the reason you're thinking. lol I'm busy, but I can deal with the stress of "busy".

What I absolutely CANNOT stand is when radio stations get stuck on one particular song and play it over...

and over...

and sometimes, more often than not, more than once or twice in the same day!!!

There is one song in particular that I absolutely CANNOT STAND! It's so annoying...the singer whines her way through the song, sometimes going so high on the scale that I'm sure dogs are suffering.

And the worst part is, I have no idea WHO sings the song or WHAT the name of it is.

I can guarantee you one thing...if I did, I would call the station we listen to in the office and ask them to PLEASE cut that song from their play list!!!

But, I guess there IS one part worse than not knowing what the song is...

my husband LOVES it!

Obscure 80's References...and Other Stuff

Last night, I finally got to take some tables at the second job. Bummer? I'm still in training and, while you're in training, you can't keep tips. So, I had one of the other servers shadowing me at the tables and, even though I was doing the work, she got all the tips. UGH. I understand the principle, but that doesn't keep it from sucking any less!

I think I made her about $70 on 4 tables. Can't wait until I'm not training anymore!

This weekend is going to be crazy! I leave right after work for a Daisy/Prim Overnighter. Daisies and Prims are the Kindergarten-2nd grade girls' clubs in Missionettes. Since I'm a Sectional Rep for IA, I have to be there. The only part I'm really looking forward to is the Reps' meeting with our District Coordinator after service tonight. We'll be talking about and planning Powette (camp for Stars, Friends, and Girls Only clubs...or 3rd through 12th grade girls). I'm excited to see some changes!!! And I have a few ideas I want to bounce off of everyone!

Like I said, I leave right after work tonight and I should be home by late afternoon tomorrow. So, if you don't see me on here for most of the weekend, that's part of the reason! lol

The other part of the reason is that M's mom, sister, and 2-year-old niece from TX will be here Sunday. They leave Monday morning. I'm seriously thinking about taking a nap on Sunday afternoon so I can stay up a little later for a visit. I can't take any vacation time on Monday morning. I accrue it too slowly and I want to make sure I have a whole weeks' worth to use if we decide to go somewhere this summer.

It'll be a short visit, but it should be fun.

Weimie made a comment a couple of days ago that I have probably won the price for Most Obscure 80's References. Well...hmmm....thinking about it. I listened to all the mainstream 80's stuff and love the big 80's movies....like 'Breakfast Club' and 'Ferris Buehler's Day Off'...but I also listened to a lot of more obscure stuff that didn't really ever make a big dent, even though it was all very 80's.

While I was in high school in the early 80's and when I started college in 1985, I got exposed to some alternative music. My sister had gone to CA to stay with a friend when she was 15 and, when she came back home, she brought a cassette (remember those?) of a group called Depeche Mode. I fell in love with them. During the course of the next 3 or 4 years, I listened mostly to stuff that most people hadn't heard of....until later. I can't tell you the number of times someone would ask me, "What are you listening to?" I'd tell them and they'd give me a blank look and go, "Who?" lol Here's a smattering...

Hmmm...

Our Song

Yes, I’m still alive and kicking. Just too busy! If anyone has a formula for slowing down a busy life, please share! Things have been so chaotic around the house lately…and not even with anything particularly exciting. Between work and homeschool, things are busy enough. But now, we’re also trying to get some things done around the house to get it ready to put up for sale. It’s just crazy!

But I’m not going to spend this entire entry talking about how busy my life is. It is…but that’s not the point today. I haven’t had much to blog about lately, so have just let things go here.

But, after reading a friend’s blog yesterday, I had an idea for an entry! Voila! It made me think about what song I could call “our song”…mine and M’s. You know, every couple seems to have a song that they can claim as their relationship’s own. Whether it’s a drippy, sappy love song that sums up their relationship or a metal thrasher song that was playing the first time they were in a mosh pit together. Everyone has “a song”.

Except for me and M…it would seem…

I got to thinking about some of the music that we used to listen to and there was just really no song that we could call our song collectively. I’m sure there were songs playing on the radio when we were dating…and there were songs playing at the school dances that we went to…but nothing that just jumps out at me as OURS. (I can’t even say that ‘Back in Black’ would be “our song”…although it was the first song we slow danced to…lol Who knew AC/DC was such a love ballad group? <snort>)

The only song that even comes to my mind when I think about our dating history is “Too Young” by Jack Wagner. Anyone remember him from General Hospital? Frisco Jones? Well, it turns out that he had a pretty decent singing career in the mid to late 80s…not fantastic, but he was pretty good.

Basically, the reason this song is the one that comes to mind is because of one simple thing: M couldn’t figure out what he wanted.

When we started dating, the first stretch lasted almost all summer. Then he broke up with me. The pattern that evolved was 2 weeks “on”, 3-4 days “off”. Our relationship moved soooooo fast!

When I think back, I’m astounded at how quickly it progressed considering our age! M was 16 and I was 17. I remember vividly the first time he told me that he loved me too.

I had spent the night with D, M’s sister,…yeah right…and M and I had stayed up late watching a movie downstairs in their living room. After the movie ended, we headed upstairs to go to bed…me to D’s room and M to M’s room. He was following me up the stairs and he grabbed my arm. When I turned around, he stepped up so that we were standing at the same level. He looked directly into my eyes and said, “I love you.”

We’d only been dating about 2 months…and we were only 16 and 17!!! <sigh>

I smiled and gave him a kiss and a hug. But I didn’t tell him the same thing. I had resolved that I would never say that to someone unless I knew beyond any shadow of doubt that I felt the same way. I mean, it’s only fair, right?

Well, once he had announced this “declaration”, then, for lack of a better choice of words, I let my guard down. I let myself get closer and closer to him, until I finally told him that I loved him too.

Then began the on again, off again pattern that I came to know oh so well!

What I think is cool about the song is the last two lines. Here are the lyrics so that you can check it out for yourself…and you can even check out the video with the oh-so-80s hair and clothes!!!

Trans-Siberian Orchestra Concert

Ok. Last night, M and I saw one of the greatest shows we've seen in a long time. Trans-Siberian Orchestra is just phenomenal!!! The first half of the show was a Christmas story with music and singing and included some GREAT stuff...but the second half...WOW...completely blew us away!

I can't even begin to describe it...it was just amazing! What incredible talent all on one stage! Even without all of the massively impressive lights and pyrotechnics, it was still incredible! Classical music will never be the same again. My absolute favorite...I think...hehe...I loved all of it...is when they combine Beethoven's Fifth with Mozart's Requiem. Wow! It's really cool!

I left wondering what some of these great composers would think hearing their music performed that way. And, you know what? I think they would think it rocks! lol It was an incredible show! If you ever have the opportunity to see them perform, you gotta go for it!

The only downside? Hmmm...the show started at 7:30 and didn't end until almost 10:30...which went VERY quickly, by the way. But that meant that by the time we got out of the parking lot and on the interstate, we didn't get home until almost midnight. And we both had to be up early for work. UGH! The alarm went off WAY too early this morning. I have a feeling that by about 2:00, my body is going to start winding down for a nap. lol Luckily, there are tons of people gone today, so it's going to quiet and slow around here. <sigh> I like it.

Now for the rib-ticklers. hehe Last night, I realized beyond any shadow of a doubt that I am NOT the only clumsy person on the planet. On the sidewalks along the street at the Qwest Center, there are concrete "blockers" (poles sticking up out of the ground to keep people from driving up on the sidewalks) that are painted bright yellow. We were walking right behind a couple of women towards the arena and the woman right in front me WALKED RIGHT INTO IT!!! I almost ran into the back of her, but got stopped and renegotiated in time, but I giggled (I tried not to do it very loud) and said to Marty, "I'm sooooo glad to see that I'm not the only one who does stuff like that." He just laughed and said, "Yeah!" Hmmm...don't know if that meant he agrees that I do stuff like that alot or what.... lol

We got into the arena and got our seats and then a little bit later, two young men who looked to be college students indicated that their seats were next to ours farther into the row. We got up and let them through...along with their two glasses each of beer. (Just a note here. I can't STAND the smell of beer...but had the special privilege of smelling it all night because of these guys.) Anyway, immediately I sensed that these two were a "couple". Don't know why...just call it woman's intuition. At one point during the show, the one sitting next to me indicated that he needed to leave and M and I stood up so that he could get out of the row (we had aisle seats). My intuition was confirmed upon hearing him say, "I'm sorry, but I need to get out." I don't think the boy had one lick of testosterone in his entire body! I'm sorry, but yikes! I have a more manly voice that he does! I told M that I should've gone "butch" and said, "Yeah, man, no problem!"

Anyway...I enjoyed people watching AND watching the show! Of course, I was surprised that my eardrums were still intact and functioning after the concert considering the girls sitting behind us were the loudest screamers I've ever heard. lol

All in all, a great night!

M and I have tickets and I can hardly wait until the concert! This is the most awesome "band"! I love classical music anyway, but when you add electric guitars and keyboards...oh wow! It adds a whole new dimension to the music!

I don't know how many have heard of Bride, but they are a heavy metal Christian band from the 90's. This song is so original. I love it. You probably won't be able to follow it at all, so here are the lyrics...long but you'll need them if you want to listen. VH1 Rock Honors 2006

Last night, the kids were gone (N is at my parents’ until Sat. and A went with friends of ours to youth group), so M and I had the house to ourselves and we could watch whatever we wanted on tv. We watched some “Everybody Loves Raymond”…we love this show! It was sad to see it go, but the reruns are still hilarious. Brad Garrett is hysterical! I think one thing that made the show great was that they took the time to let you see facial expressions, which were a lot of times funnier than anything that might’ve been said. And there was such a chemistry between all of them.

There was one thing about the show, though, that M and I agreed on. Debra was not always right. There were episodes that I would just sit and go, “Aw, man…she’s wrong on this one.” But it was funnier for her to be “right” and for Ray to be a complete idiot about it.

Later on, we switched over to VH1 to see what was on. VH1 is a channel that we have blocked normally. They’re not very discriminating about language, dialogue, or imagery…and if neither one of us is home with the kids during the day, I would rather N and A not see what might be on there while they’re flipping through the channels. (I’ve had to change the channel for myself before. Eek. )

Anyway, they were having their 1^st Annual Rock Honors and they were showcasing rock bands. They honored Queen first…of course. Then Queen performed with their new lead singer…he’s no Freddie Mercury. They also featured Judas Priest…M was like a little kid. JP is one of his all time favorite groups. There were snippets of songs that were highlighted while they interviewed the band. I wasn’t watching at that point, but could hear it. I came in the room and said, “Judas Priest sings that? I didn’t know that.” lol M was singing along with the songs they performed at the end of their segment. He’s no Rob Halford…

Then, they had Def Leppard on. lol Of all funny coincidences. I just posted my story about visiting the men’s room at a Def Leppard concert, then they’re on tv. They performed a couple of songs at the end of their segment…Rock of Ages was one (I love that song!). But Joe Elliott’s range has suffered as he’s gotten older. I caught myself cringing several times through their performance.

***Just a note*** The concert that I saw in '88 where the men's room incident occurred was part of the ‘Hysteria’ tour…after the drummer had lost his arm. He did an incredibly amazing drum solo towards the end of the concert. When he finished, it was a full 15 minutes that everyone was cheering and screaming at full volume! The rest of the band rode out the applause. It was very cool.

The last band they had on was, of course, KISS. The grandpas of rock’n’roll. Paul Stanley wasn’t looking too bad, but Gene Simmons (even in full makeup) looked like a possessed, dirty old man. He did the tongue thing through their entire performance and there was just exceedingly too much drool involved…..ICK ICK ICK M was even disgusted and KISS was one of his favorites as a younger kid…and one of the reasons we were watching the show.

It was a cool show with a lot of interview clips and pictures montaged with their music. But I wouldn’t have watched it with my kids. Too many references to sex…

Once it was over, I went to bed and M waited up for A to get home. He said she got home about 10 minutes after I went upstairs. Hmmm… I must’ve crashed as soon as my head hit the pillow because I never heard anything after that…except the alarm at 5:30. Yeah! A solid, uninterrupted night’s sleep…those are few and far between these days.

Livin' in the 80's...

This afternoon has been a busy one for me. Not that I’m doing anything that I need be doing…just messing on the computer with stuff that I’ve wanted to do for awhile, but never taken the time to do, namely burning some mp3s to CD. After the headache I put M (hubby) through trying to find the CD burning software in his suitcase of a CD case, we both realized that <eureka!> Media Player will do that all by itself. Sheesh! We both took a second to look at one another like, “We’re both idiots.”

So, needless to say, I managed to whittle my list down to around 60 “must burn” songs. Unforturnately, some of those were in .wma format , so I didn’t mess with them today. I’ll save that for another 2 years later when I finally get around to messing with them again. So, my list of “must burns” was narrowed down to about 36. I managed to get them on 2 CDs after messing with this external CDRW drive for an hour. Resulting decision: we’ve decided to sell it on eBay.
