I play the harmonica. The only way I can play is if I get my car going really
fast, and stick it out the window. I put a new engine in my car, but forgot to
take the old one out. Now my car goes 500 miles per hour.

The harmonica sounds *amazing*.

I watched the Indy 500, and I was thinking that if they left earlier they
wouldn't have to go so fast.

I had to stop driving my car for a while...the tires got dizzy.

I can remember the first time I had to go to sleep.

Mom said, "Steven, time to go to sleep."

I said, "But I don't know how."

She said, "It's real easy.
Just go down to the end of tired and hang a left."

So I went down to the end of tired, and just out of curiosity I hung a right.

My mother was there, and she said "I thought I told you to go to sleep."

There's a fine line between fishing and

standing on the shore looking like an idiot.

Curiosity killed the cat, but for a while I was a suspect.

I drive way too fast to worry about cholesterol.

I hope all the moms out there are having a wonderful mother's day!

We went out for lunch at Biaggi's and I had the pleasure of enjoying some absolutely sumptuous tiramisu! Oh yummmmmmmmmmmmmmm!

Tonight, we're going to spend some time with some friends of ours and have a blast! When we all get together, it's a major laugh fest!!! I know I'm going to be exhausted by the time we get home later! lol

Last night, M wanted to take me to a concert and I really wanted to go, but I knew that by the time we finished painting inside and working outside, I was going to be too beat to really enjoy myself. So we stayed home instead. The concert we were going to was Bach to Rock - Mark Wood.

He's the inventor of the Viper (7-stringed electric violin with frets) and the Violator (siz- and nine-stringed fretted double-necked electric violin) and is a member of TSO. Ah well....when you have to get a house ready to sell, I guess you have to be grown up and put your priorities in the right place. Maybe next time...

Besides, I was right. By the time I finished painting our bedroom and got showered, I was ready for a quiet night at home.

Oh, and the biggest news of the weekend was today. We stopped at our real estate agent's after church and signed the acceptance notice on the house we're trying to buy. Now to get the financing in order...

This entry is in response to Tom's request that we list our top 3 sleeper movies and why we like them. Here are his rules:

1. You pick 3 movies.

2. Your 3 movies cannot appear on any previous list posted.

3. Any genre is OK.

4. Your movie has to be a sleeper. No E.T., Top Gun, Star Wars, Spiderman 2 ….

5. It has to be a movie you liked.

6. Leave a small comment about each pick.

So, here's my list:

1. My Blue Heaven: Steve Martin, Rick Moranis, Joan Cusack, Carol Kane, and Melanie Mayron. Need I say more?

2. Trapped in Paradise: Nic Cage, Jon Lovitz, and Dana Carvey. A real bomb of a movie, but several individual scenes taken out of context that are just unbelievably hilarious!

3. Mom and Dad Save the World: Jon Lovitz, Jeffrey Jones, Teri Garr, Wallace Shawn, Eric Idle, and Kathy Ireland. What can you say about a movie about a planet of idiots ruled by Jon Lovitz?

That concludes my list of favorite sleepers. Anyone else want to post theirs?

Chick Flicks

Quick late, late....late, late night entry. I was...let me see..."challenged" by a blog buddy to watch a chick flick over the course of my "girls' weekend" from a list on his blog. (You know who you are....TOM. lol)

Well, tonight, I popped in 'As Good As It Gets'. I have to say that I'm surprised that a man had this listed on a list of "Chick Flicks I Like".

I thought it was good. Jack Nicholson did a great job in this one...but I can't say the movie was great, because, to be totally honest, I don't care much for ole Jack. He gives me the heebie jeebies. I love Helen Hunt...but to see her kissing Jack.....EWWWWWW! lol I know he's an awesome actor and I can recognize that he's great in a movie, but I just don't like him. I think the role that immortalized him the most was his role in 'The Shining'. I guess that's how I'll always see him...as a crazy psycho. He plays the role well.

But, I do have to say that one of the more memorable exchanges from this one would have to be this:

Receptionist in the Publisher's office: "How do you write women so well?"

Melvin (Jack): "I take a man, then remove all reason and accountability." Exit.

OUCH!

I didn't know whether to laugh or turn the movie off. Hmmm... lol

Overall, it was very good. So, Tom, I saw a movie tonight that I hadn't seen before because of your recommendation. Thanks.

I saw two other good movies this weekend too: 'King Arthur' (go figure! lol) and 'Memoirs of a Geisha'. Both were really good.

Brief impressions were this: 'King Arthur' was a "Camelot-ized" 'Braveheart'...brutal battle scenes. Interesting interpretation of the story. I didn't like Guinevere in this one at all, though. There was no chemistry between Arthur and Guinevere and only a hint of it between her and Lancelot. In fact, Lancelot was my favorite character in the movie.

'Memoirs of a Geisha' should've been rated R in my opinion. Mostly based solely on subject matter throughout...and a couple of scenes (pertaining to matters concerning sex) done in such a way as to illustrate how much like property and assets the geishas were. Overall I really liked it, but I won't see it again.

Anyway, I'm going to bed now. I have to get up early. This morning I woke up at 7:00, rolled over and thought, "I'll get up and hit the shower in a few minutes." Seriously, I felt like I had just thought that and rolled back over to see the clock which showed it was 8:15! How did that happen??? So, I got up a little later than usual, but I felt great all day. I guess I needed the extra hour of sleep.

The Reduced Shakespeare Company

A few years ago on one of our visits to Shakespeare on the Green here, in place of the standard comedy, they performed what was called 'The Complete Works of Shakespeare (Abridged)'. It was some plays shortened...others were combined...very unconventional...but they were all performed at a fraction of the time it would've taken to do each play in its entirety. Obviously.

Well, it was one of the funniest things I've ever seen! And it's even funnier if you have a little bit of insight into each of the plays to begin with. Video and still photography aren't allowed there, so I had to just be happy knowing that I had just witnessed something hysterically funny that I would probably never see again.

Until tonight.

A and I went to the library when I got home and, while we were perusing the video library, I ran across this:

I thought, "No way! This can't be the same one I saw 7 years ago!!!" When I got home, I popped it in our XBox (which doubles for our DVD player) and it was!!!

If you haven't seen it or heard of it, you have to see it! OMG! Even if you don't like Shakespeare, you'll die laughing! It's one of the most hilarious things I've ever seen. There are a few somewhat indecorous suggestions/scenes, but that's part of Shakespeare...so you take it at face value.

I'm expecting to hear return reviews...I mean it.

The final play that they perform is Hamlet...my favorite. There is one scene where they pull a woman from the audience to play Ophelia. When you watch this DVD just keep in mind that when I saw it live, I was in section C. hehe You'll die laughing.

Also a side note: When I saw this live, it wasn't with this company, it was with the Nebraska Shakespeare Festival...so different actors, but same "script".

Ya gotta see it!!!

I am getting so excited about this Thursday! I wait all year for the last 2 weeks of June and the first week of July! Why? Because that’s when Shakespeare on the Green runs! It’s so much fun!

So far, I’ve been to almost every one since I first heard about it in 1999. Of course, I did miss it in 2001…which kind of figures since they did Hamlet that year, my favorite!!! <sigh> Oh well.

The best part is that it’s free. Donations only. Awesome! What a perfect way to introduce someone to Shakespeare without putting a strain on your checkbook. The whole experience is just too cool for words, to be honest.

The sets, the costumes, the colors, the greenshow, the atmosphere…<heavy sigh> What can I say? I love it! And, to make it even greater, M likes it too. I managed to talk him into going the first year I went and he was really surprised. Of course, I suggested we go to the comedy. We both laughed a lot and had a great time!

It’s the kind of thing that makes me nostalgic. An ex-boyfriend of mine had several friends in the theater dept. at college and, because of that, I got to be involved in a lot of backstage work and cast parties. When he did one of his lab projects, I painted the backdrop for him. It’s just sooooo much fun. I could never be in the spotlight in a big arena like that, but I love all the backstage stuff. <sigh> The awesome memories…of theater...not ex-boyfriend.

So, I’m waiting anxiously for Thursday! I don’t know if we’ll go that night or wait until Friday, but I do want to go! Can hardly wait!!!
